Percy Sutton 5K Run, Walk, & Children's Run
The annual Percy Sutton Harlem 5K, HARLEM WEEK’s largest sporting event, offered runners a leg up on qualifying for the TCS New York City Marathon, along with a gorgeous tour of Harlem, with a route looping St. Nicholas Park and coursing through the City College of New York.
The race honors the late harlem titan, Percy Sutton, a civil rights activist and entrepreneur who served as Manhattan Borough President in the 1970s. Of his many feats, Mr. Sutton was crucial in establishing the New York City Marathon as a citywide event (beyond Central Park and to the streets of the five boroughs).
A group of young women from Run For The Future, a free New York Road Runners program offering girls the opportunity to get fit and develop leadership skills, completed their first ever 5K.
